Final Exam

#1

The time as come for me to do my final exam for my CAP 105 class. This exam consists of 10 different parts that each show we know how to use the programs we have been taught in class this semester. The first part of this exam is to make this page…CHECK!

The second part of this exam is to create our own logo. For mine I centered it around the fact that I want to own my own advertising agency in the future. My full name is Olivia Jean Chriss, that is where I got the OJC from. When people see this logo I want them to think of me and my brand. To make this logo I used the program InDesign and the text options that it had available.

This is the before image of Grand Valley’s clocktower. It is located at the center of Grand Valley campus and there is always something going on around it.

This is the after image of the Grand Valley Clock Tower that I altered in Photoshop using the liquify tool. This clock tower is right outside the Kirkhoff building and the Mary Idema Pew Library. It is the center of Grand Valley and is usually where people hand out flyers, hosts protests, or sell posters.

This is the after image of the fountain. I added a filter to alter the image in Photoshop. When the weather is nice this fountain is a perfect spot to sit and enjoy the sunshine.

This is the Amaranth statue that can be found just outside of Mackinac Hall. When the weather is nice kids will sit on the surrounding benches and enjoy each others company.

This is the after image of the blue arch. I used the liquify tool to alter the image in photoshop. Legend says that when you walk under this arch in the direction that I am going it is good luck. When you walk under it going the other way, you will have bad luck until you graduate.

Chriss, O. J. (2015, December 14). Kirkhoff Selfie. In Twitter. Retrieved December 14, 2015.

For the first part of the fourth step of the exam we were to take a selfie in front of the 20/20 desk in the Kirkhoff center. This is where students can ask questions about campus and the events that are happening, and where they can get their football tickets. The girl at the desk at the time already knew I was taking the picture for my CAP 105 class. She said she has had a lot of people come by to take a selfie. We were to post this picture on Twitter, tag our professor, and use #CAP105Final.

The second part of this step was to take a selfie in front of Grand Valley’s Louis Armstrong Theater. Just like our picture with the 20/20 desk, we were to post this picture on Twitter, tag our professor, and hashtag it with #CAP105Final. Taking the selfie was difficult because I’m short, so it took a lot of work to get the name of the theater in the picture.

Haters Gonna Hate

For the fifth part of this exam, we were to reenact the three memes that I have captioned above. My favorite of these three is the Bad Luck Brian Meme. To reenact this, I took a bad picture of myself and added a caption that most Grand Valley students would understand. They know how hard it is to find an open parking space and I’m sure most of them heard about the car that caught on fire a few weeks ago. I decided to combine these two things because they go along with the preexisting Bad Luck Brian memes.

Chriss, O. J. (Producer). Chriss, O. J. (Director). (2015). GVSU Library Tour [Online video].

For the sixth part of this final we were to make a 30 second mini tour of Grand Valley States Mary Idema Pew Library. This video takes the viewers through the building and shows them some of the many study areas that are available. One of my favorite spots that I showed in this video is the area that is outside. This gives students a chance to study outside when the weather is nice but they still have access to the resources that are available at the library.

Chriss, O. J. (Photographer). (2015). Favorite Statue. [Photograph]. Allendale, MI.

For the seventh part of this exam, we were to get a picture of us in front of our favorite statue and edit it in Photoshop. My favorite is the Arch VII by Susanna Linburg that was made in 1995. It’s a bronze statue with an intricate design. I like this statue because of how complex it is at the top, it makes you really look at it to figure out where each piece begins and ends. In Photoshop, I took out the background and added the filter that looks like plastic wrap was smudged over the image.

Chriss, O. J. (2015, December 8). Cover Photo. In Twitter. Retrieved December 14, 2015.

The eighth part of this exam was to use InDesign to create a Twitter cover photo. As you can see I used three pictures of Grand Valley that I have taken in the past year and a half since I’ve been here. For those of you who have lived in Grand Rapids you know how up and down the weather can be, but Grand Valley always seems to remain beautiful. The picture on the left was taken in the spring, the middle was taken in the middle of winter, and the right one was taken during the fall.

I Had Fun Once It Was Horrible. (n.d.). In Quick Meme. Retrieved December 14, 2015, from http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3r15cw/page/1/

For the ninth part of this exam we were to take a screenshot of our favorite meme. As you can see from the picture above, my favorite is the Grumpy Cat. I am a sarcastic person myself so the captions that you see on this picture make me laugh every time because they remind me of something I would say. In my opinion Memes are important to Internet culture because they give us a way to laugh at every day occurrences. Without Memes, I have a feeling the Internet and social media itself would not be as entertaining or popular. These Memes are a source of comic relief from our everyday lives.

Chriss, O. J. (Photographer). (2015). The Wrecking Ball. [Photograph]. Allendale, MI.

For first part of the tenth and final step of this exam we were to get a picture of us with the infamous Wrecking Ball on Grand Valley’s campus. This wrecking ball became the center for a lot of talk after Miley Cyrus released the music video for her hit song Wrecking Ball. For those of you who haven’t see it, in the video Miley Cyrus is swinging on a wrecking ball naked. This of course gave students the brilliant idea to climb onto Grand Valley’s wrecking ball naked and take videos and pictures of themselves. After this situation, Grand Valley removed the statue which sent the students into a frenzy. The students took to twitter and t-shirt making to get their message across that they wanted their wrecking ball back. Eventually, their message was heard and the ball was reinstated, but with a gate around it to stop people from climbing on it again. This statue is a symbol of the teamwork and pride the students at Grand Valley State University have for their campus.

(2015). In Google AdWords. Retrieved December 14, 2015.

The  second part of the step is to use Google AdWords to find 5 alternate phrase people would use to research Grand Valley’s Wrecking Ball. The five phrases that I searched on Google AdWords were Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball, Grand Valley State University, Wrecking Ball Video, Grand Valley Lakers, and University Wrecking Ball. The results that If found are in the screenshot above.

In order to add more SEO to my blog posts, I could use Google AdWords to find words that people don’t use as often. By using these words my site is more likely to pop up when people type them into Google. Using more “original” words can make my blog posts stand out more against the competition; this will result in more people choosing to look at the content of my website over others.
